Bring on the green cats!

...for a green world.

Everything these days is about "green"...

How can we make that building "green"? says the architect and civil design engineer....

How can we make this automobile more green says the mechanical engineer...

Economist for China Charlie Rosen says.. let's make this a green cat... when referring to China's new economic policy and the quote from Mao Tze-Dong about how with the Chinese economy hwhether it is a black cat or a white cat, as long as it catches mice, there are no problems...

I read about how the ice floes don't exist these past two summers.. the Europeans can't have their skiing tournaments and the Minnesotans can't have their ice fishing... because there is a heat wave that makes the snow melt and the water never freezes to become ice... is it global warming like Al Gore predicted?

However tacky _An Inconvenient Truth_ may have been with its personal advertisement of Gore's family and political career
(one watches it thinking, ah here si a guyw ith a chip on his shoulder... and who were the goons who made it..? If they wanted the film to be palatable they should have stuck with the facts... and science... not with gore's political aspirations) but whatever was was and so let's not quibble.. the thing I want to get at is this...

Are we going to respond to global warming only when it is too late?

If global warming is doing this great "heat wave" of the winter (mind you I know Chicagoans who though they are cold and all, haven't turned up their heat much higher than 69 degrees or intriguingly haven't turned up their heat at all yet) and yes I know those who are still sitting in their apartments on the floor rubbing their paws from the cold... but look... where are the great improvements in public transportation..? are people actually making changes that mean we'll stave off global warming? are we actually living life more green?

Ma and Pa were recently having a discussion about the car... Pa said, "I think we'll get a replacement that's the same as what I had before." Ma said, "No, we'll get a hybrid now.. maybe it'll help us live a little longer." Pa said, "Naw, I think those don't have enough power." Ma said, "No, we're getting a hybrid because it is better for the environment and there is a tax benefit for it."

Apparently, the green tide has caught up with the folks at home... so I say bring on the green cats.

(BTW- To the Mom Pop dialog, my initial comment was to cut and paste the NYT article about how 51% more women were living without a spouse in America into an email to my sister and send it to her with a chuckle. The NYT asked what changes might happen to the workplace if more and more of the workforce becomes single women. I wonder if perhaps the world's population is getting smarter. Maybe if women end up in greater positions of power and better self-esteem, the world would be cleaner, nicer, greener, happier, and healthier. I wonder if I can make a proposal that women might institute a nap-time and more vacation... and we'd all be happier and have our priorities straight. Probably not quite.. but maybe nearly so. Maybe with the green cat comes the rise of women? ...after all it looks like Harvard University is looking for a new female president.)
